It takes a lot to be a leader in a community full of strong and passionate individuals. But this Hawaiian native has been able to walk the tight rope of politics, build bridges where flooded lakes once were, and support the smokefree cause. Ernie Yuen has been a director on the Las Vegas Pride board for 8 years, an executive officer, and chairman of the Las Vegas Pride Night Parade. He volunteers his time each year to create memorable events and find funds to continue vital functions in the LGBT community. When asked what the current need in the community is, he spoke candidly, “We first and foremost need to all get along and become one strong force in our community. We are somewhat divided and that needs to change. We all need to get along and become one.”

CRUSH believes that positive change starts with each individual creating positive, healthy choices that begin with their bodies. While smoking is a major problem that young and old LGBT people face, Ernie has always stood up and spoke out about his smokefree lifestyle. When asked about his thoughts on CRUSH’s mission, “I like it, I can’t stand the smell. I love what CRUSH stands for and I have been a fan from day one. I understand we all have choices and I like that Crush provides hardcore facts about being smokefree. I love it!”

Ernie will be overseeing this year’s Las Vegas Pride, with the help of the board as well as the countless community orgs, club, restaurants, and numerous others. Pride kicks off September 15th. For info on all Pride endorsed events check out lasvegaspride.org.
